Changes

The modifications from the APA Style Citations Kwantlen Polytechnic University and the APA Style Citation Tutorial University of Alberta Pressbooks are:

• Added separate part pages and included the learning outcomes to each part page.

Part I:

• Changed part title to “APA Style Citation”.
• Moved location and revised text for the “What is APA Style?” Chapter.
• Revised the everyday and academic reference examples to nursing examples in the “What Is a Citation” Chapter, removed the duplication for the in-text example image.
• Changed the image for “To Avoid Plagiarism”.
• Added chapter “When Do We Cite?” with information about self plagiarism.

Part II:

• Changed part title to “Source Types”.
• Removed video as an example source type, added text box about the category. “Grey/Gray literature”, and a new last sentence to Chapter “Exploring Source Types” to connect to the new chapter “Electronic Resources: DOI or URL?”.
• Used the order of the University of Alberta Pressbook for the source types and changed the source types to Nursing examples, and Trade Publication to Professional Publication.
• Added chapter “Source Type: Edited Book Chapter Cues”.
• Changed the layout of the Activity to a Quiz using the H5P course presentation.
• Removed the “Source Types Summary” chapter.

Part III:

• Changed part title to “References”.
• Removed the “Two Types of Citation” chapter.
• Merged the four separate “Find the 4 W’s” H5P activities from KPU “APA Style Citations” in one H5P course presentation explaining “The 4Ws” citation elements.
• Added H5P Image Hotspots to visualize the four elements for each nursing source type
• Created colour coded and labelled images for the nursing sources adapted from the University of Alberta “APA Style Citation Tutorial”.
• Added chapter “Creating a References Page”.
• Removed “Creating” for the chapters, and changed “Trade Articles” to “Professional Articles”.
• Added chapter “Reference: Edited Book Chapter”.
• Removed “Exercise 1 Find the elements needed for a reference list citation” from KPU “APA Style Citations” for each chapter.
• Removed the activities chapter content and replaced it using the KPU “APA Style Citations” for each source “Exercise 2: How do you write each citation element in APA Style?” and added image of each source above each quiz.
• Removed the chapter “Summary of the 4W’s”.

Part IV:

• Chapter “What is an In-Text Citation” added image connecting reference citation to in-text citation from APA Style Citation Tutorial, University of Alberta.
• Split the content from “What is an In-Text Citation” by creating a separate chapter for “Quotations”.
• Added chapter about “Indirect Source Citation”.
• Changed the name of the chapter “In-Text Citation Activity – Part One” to “Quiz: In-Text Citations”, and replaced the image of the sources to an image of the reference citations.
• Removed the chapter “In-Text Citations Activity – Part Two”.
• Used the KPU “APA Style Citations” reference citation examples and created multiple choice quiz “Match In-Text Citation to Reference Citations”.

Removed Part V:

• Chapter “How it All Works Together”.
• Chapter  “Matching Reference and In-Text Citations Activity”.

Back Matter:

• Chapter “APA and Writing Support”: updated to reflect Saskatchewan Polytechnic and University of Regina resources.
• Removed chapter “Conclusion”.
