9 5 C’s of Professional Communication (2.4.1)

Verna Johnson

In Video 1.4: The 5 C’s of Great Communication below, the speaker explains five qualities that every effective communicator should demonstrate—regardless of their  no role, industry, or message. These are known as the 5 C’s of Communication:

  1. Clear – Your message should be easy to understand. Make sure your audience knows what you are saying and why it matters.

  2. Concise – Keep it short and to the point. Long messages or too many details can cause your audience to lose interest or forget key points.

  3. Confident – Speak with confidence. People are more likely to trust and listen to speakers who believe in what they’re saying.

  4. Credible – Be prepared and trustworthy. Know your topic well and speak honestly to earn your audience’s respect.

  5. Compelling – Make your message engaging and persuasive. A compelling message not only gets attention—it inspires action.

These five qualities—clear, concise, confident, credible, and compelling—can help you become a stronger communicator. After watching the video, take a moment to reflect:

Which of the 5 C’s come naturally to you? Which ones could you work on?
