Verna Johnson

Once interviews are complete, the following steps will help you make an informed hiring decision and ensure a smooth transition for the successful candidate.

Review Your Interview Notes

Carefully review your notes and any completed assessment materials from the interview.

  • Compare candidates based on key qualifications, relevant experience, communication skills, and overall fit for the role and team.

  • Consider using a scoring system or rubric to maintain consistency and objectivity.

Make a Hiring Decision

Once a decision is made, contact the selected candidate to offer them the position.

  • Communicate the offer clearly, including start date, salary or wage, benefits, and any other relevant information.

  • Set a reasonable deadline for them to accept or decline the offer.

Inform Unsuccessful Candidates

Notify candidates who were not selected in a timely and respectful manner.

  • Send a brief, professional email thanking them for their time and interest in the position.

  • If applicable, let them know their résumé will be kept on file for future opportunities.

Close the Loop Internally

Communicate the hiring decision with the necessary team members.

  • Update your team and any relevant departments about the selected candidate and their expected start date.

  • Complete all required paperwork and documentation for the hiring process.

Plan for Onboarding (if the Candidate Accepts)

Begin preparing for the new hire’s arrival.

  • Ensure that all onboarding materials, training schedules, workspace, and access to systems or equipment are ready.

  • Consider assigning a mentor or point of contact to support the new employee during their first days on the job.

These steps will help ensure a professional and organized conclusion to the hiring process and set the stage for the new employee’s success.
