9 Recitals
Recital Facilities
The Conservatory has access to a beautiful hall for recitals: CB 210 is available for teacher’s studio recitals and is the home for the Conservatory’s Recital Program. The Conservatory will also offer at least 2 recitals a year at Darke Hall. On occasion, Conservatory instructors may also use CB 139 for studios recitals.
Conservatory Recital Guidelines
All Conservatory of Performing Arts students are welcome to participate in the Conservatory Recital Program, below you will find Conservatory expectations for participants and audience members. This information will be distributed to recital participants when their registration is confirmed.
Attendance
Students who register for a recital are expected to be present for the entire recital. The Conservatory will do its best to limit the length of recitals to 45-60 minutes.
What to perform
Students are asked to work with their teacher to choose recital appropriate material. Note that starting October 2022 all students (including voice students) will be restricted to one piece of music per recital.
What to wear
At a minimum, students should plan to dress in business casual style clothing and wear indoor shoes. If students want to dress more formally, that is also welcome. Recitals are an opportunity to present music students have been studying in a time-honoured tradition and what students wear is part of that presentation.
When to arrive
The doors for the recital space open 30 minutes ahead of the recital. Students who plan to warm up and/or need assistance with tuning should be at the recital location at least 15 minutes before the time the recital is scheduled to start. All students should be present and ready to start no later than 5 minutes before the posted recital time.
During the recital
Please turn all phones and electronic devices off during performances – they can distract performers and audience members. Refrain from talking when students and accompanists are playing. If you need to leave the recital space, please leave between performances.
If you enjoyed a particular performance, tell the student at the end of the recital.
Conservatory Recital Registration Procedure
Accompanists are provided at no cost to student for all regularly scheduled Conservatory recitals during the teaching year based on the following conditions:
-
- Students will receive a maximum of two half-hour rehearsals (including time spent at lessons) plus the performance itself. Any extra time must be paid for by the student/parent. This payment can be made through SISNC or online
- All accompanists’ music required for a given recital must be submitted by the entry deadline for that recital. Failure to provide the music in this time period will result in the cancellation of the student’s performance
- Note: students wanting to work with a Conservatory accompanist for non-Conservatory events (eg. examinations, music festivals, etc) may register for accompanist time with the accompanist of their choice and pay online or at the SISNC office
Students who want to be considered for scholarships must fulfill their recital requirement prior to the entry deadline
Recital Entries must be submitted by the deadline according to the Recital Schedule of the current year. Deadlines are set to allow accompanists time to review the music and arrange rehearsals with students. Please do not ask for extensions.
