4 Lesson Placements

Lesson Placement Process

If you want to receive new student referrals, the SISNC Office needs to know your current schedule and that you are accepting new students.

Goals of the Placement Process:

  • To place students with a teacher as quickly and efficiently as possible
  • To equitably refer students to teachers
  • To make the placement system as smooth as possible for students, teachers, and SISNC.

When to use the Lesson Placement Process

Only students who have not talked to a teacher at the Conservatory are asked to use the Lesson Placement Process.

Students who have contacted a teacher directly and have agreed to a lesson day and time with the teacher do not need to use the Lesson Placement system.

Teachers who are contacted by students directly and want to teach them should tell the student how many lessons to sign up for along with the day, time, and length of their lessons so that the student can register for lessons.

Receiving Students from the Lesson Placement Process

When a student requests a specific teacher through the online placement form and the teacher is accepting new students, that student is put in contact with the teacher by the SISNC office.

If a student requests a teacher who is not accepting new students or the student does not request a teacher, a rotation model for matching students and teachers is used, based on the following criteria.

The Rotation Model

    1. Scheduling – does the teacher have a time available that works for the student? (This may result in a short list of 3-6 teachers)
    2. Fit – do the student’s requests based on the placement form match the teacher’s skills as submitted on the teacher’s studio and student request form? E.g. has the student said they are only interested in pop music and is the teacher comfortable teaching pop? (This may reduce the number of people on the short list)
    3. Length of time since last placement – The teacher who has been the longest since receiving a student receives the placement.

Receiving a Lesson Placement

  1.  You will receive an email from conservatory.lessons@uregina.ca when a student is placed with you asking if you would like to be connected with them
  2. Please respond with a yes or no to this email within 48 hours
  3. If we do not hear from the teacher within 48 hours of the original email, we will move on to the next teacher on the list
  4. If you say yes to the student, you will receive a second email with their contact information
  5. Contact the student and if it seems like a good match, have them register for lessons – the registration link for your lessons is in your UR Community lesson site
  6. If you say no to the student, the office will try a different instructor
