2 Pay Rates
The Conservatory uses a compensation grid to determine pay rates for instructors.
Each spring instructors meet with the Head of the Conservatory and select the rate they want to charge students the following year.
There are 14 lesson rates for students in 2022-2023 and 3 categories of pay for instructors, the pay categories are explained below.
Instructor Pay Categories
Category 1 is the base pay rate for teachers; 70% of private lesson revenue goes to the instructor
Category 2 is for teachers who teach 8 or more hours per week, hold a MMus degree, and/or have 15 years of teaching experience. This is also the base rate for teachers whose instruments have less than 8 hours per week of lessons. For example: there is less than 8 hours of trombone lessons each week, therefore all trombone teachers start at Category 2; in this category 75% of private lesson revenue goes to the instructor
Category 3 is for teachers who teach 15 or more hours per week, hold a DFA, and/or 25 years of teaching experience; in this category 80% of private lesson revenue goes to the instructor
