Many hands make light(er) work. This project would not be possible without the exceptional team of professionals and students who dedicated their time and energy to this project. The PASSchem team at Thomson Rivers University provided invaluable guidance on templating and integrating self-study exercises in the textbook. Thank you, Sharon and Lindsay, all for your dedication to OER and willingness to share production tips and tricks. A massive thank you to John at JVDW Designs for putting my wandering ideas into beautiful graphics and ensuring accessibility of website design. Thank you for your passion and wizardry. To my production team of students who worked tirelessly to work and re-work exercises, create usable templates, and convert my manuscript to an online masterpiece, thank you. It’s been a pleasure to teach you, teach with you, and chat over a coffee. Thank you for engaging with this project as a small stop in your accounting career. You make me immensely proud. And finally, I am grateful to this project’s maestro, the brilliant Toby Willis-Camp. You are the hub that connects: people, information, thoughts, and words. Thank you for bringing me into the OER community, creating accessible language, and helping me find my voice.

Page Accessibility

This resource follows accessibility guidelines found in:

Minuikovich, DeAngeli, Sulpizio, Venuti. (2017). Design Guidelines for Web Readability. Proceedings of the 2017 Conference on Designing Interactive Systems.

285-296.

In particular, it includes:

  • Accessible navigation with linked Table of Contents and using headings in each chapter to make navigation easy.
  • Accessible math equations written in LaTeX which makes them accessible to students using screen readers.
  • Accessible tables formatted in tabular form rather than as images which makes them accessible to students using screen readers.
  • Accessible images that convey information through alternative text.
  • Accessible use of colour for students experiencing colour blindness, especially where colour is used as a differentiator or carries meaning (see David Nichols’ online colourblindness simulation tool at https://davidmathlogic.com/colorblind/#%23D81B60-%231E88E5-%23FFC107-%23004D40)

What sets this textbook apart is how accessible it is. But there’s always room for improvement. If you have problems accessing this resource, please contact me at jacqui.gagnon@uregina.ca so I can fix the issue.
