Chapter 3: Development and Sharing of Branching Scenarios

Once your branching scenario is mapped and decision points are starting to be clearly outlined, the next step is development. This chapter will walk you through bringing the scenario to life by selecting a tool, building the scenario, and launching it for learners.

This chapter focuses on the practical aspects of bringing your branching scenario to life and making it accessible to learners. As with Chapter 2: Designing Branching Scenarios, the development stage can be iterative and should be guided by learning outcomes, learner needs, and course content. Building on the design foundations established in earlier chapters, here you’ll explore a range of tools, platforms, and delivery methods for developing interactive, decision-based learning experiences. Whether you prefer digital platforms like Twine or H5P, low-tech analog formats, or a hybrid of both, this chapter will guide you through choosing the right approach based on your goals, context, and comfort level with technology.

You’ll find detailed sections that walk you through the strengths and limitations of different tools, along with tips for integrating media and ensuring accessibility. Special attention is given to the tools supported at USask, with practical suggestions for testing, sharing, and embedding your scenarios into learning environments.

By the end of this chapter, you should feel more confident in selecting a development method and taking the next step in building and deploying your own branching scenario.
